Improvements in Killamarsh Cemetery
Killamarsh Parish Council has recently invested £15000 installing a new fence around the grounds of Killamarsh Cemetery on Ashley Lane. In addition, to further improve security, arrangements have now also been made for the gates to be locked when the Cemetery is closed.
Councillor Harold Laws, Lead Member for Village/Community reporting on this matter to the press said "The Cemetery is a dignified area where local residents want to spend time remembering their loved ones. The Parish Council has received complaints of horses being ridden through the Cemetery and of dog fouling and we hope that the new fence will remind people responsible for this that the Cemetery is a place for residents to visit in a quiet environment. We do realise that some people may want to bring a much loved dog to the Cemetery to visit a grave and all we ask is that if their dog makes a mess that they clean it up so as not to spoil the cemetery for other residents".
The Parish Council is monitoring complaints regarding the Cemetery and has said that if the nuisance of dog mess continues serious consideration will be given to banning dogs from the grounds.
