Community Shuttle Bus
The Killamarsh Community Shuttle Bus has been running in the village since 2005.  The aim is to support  residents of Killamarsh to take part in the community life and make Killamarsh a better place.  The bus runs on a Thursday each week and will pick you up from your home and take you to the villiage centre shops or the Sports Centre to enable you to join in the activities.  It will then pick you up to take you back home again.

Rother Valley Country Park

Fun for all the family is right on your doorstep.  The park was opened in 1983 and has four artifical lakes which are home to various water activities and many wildlife.  Even if you do not wish to take to the water this is a lovely environment for you to enjoy individually or as a family.  Many families take a picnic to enjoy the outdoors and watch the various events which take place in the park.

Sustrans/Connect 2 Project Schemes in Your Area

Killamarsh, Halfway Tram Terminus, Rother Valley Country Park and Chesterfield Canal Link

There have been some delays in the above project and the bridge lifts will now go back to 14th January 2012.

However the contractor believe they can complete Phase 1 by the end of January 2012, only two weeks late overall, as they will advance other works in the meantime.

This project aims to connect communities to the revitalised Chesterfield Canal, the Sheffield Tram and to the Rother Valley.

Rather than working on the historic journey patterns, this innovative project builds on the ‘success based’ approach to the public foot, cycle and bridle paths of South Rotherham, South East Sheffield and North East Derbyshire. This project will utilise new bridges, lost ways, canal paths, disused railway lines and reclamation sites to create a holistic network connecting communities to each other through attractive greenbelt terrain.

For those of you who don’t know, Rotherham Metropolitan Borough Council, together with Sheffield City Council and Derbyshire County Council has been working in partnership to deliver exciting new access in the areas of Killamarsh, Halfway, and the south of Rotherham borough around the Cuckoo Way/Chesterfield Canal.

In December 2007, after a huge amount of public support, Sustrans won the £50 million Big Lottery Giveaway.

Connect2 is a UK-Wide project that will see hundreds of miles of walking and cycling routes created around the UK.

The project will provide extra bridges and extra links – improving travel and reducing our carbon footprint.

The Killamarsh, Halfway Tram Terminus, Rother Valley Country Park and Chesterfield Canal Link project is one of 79 schemes that was successful in its bid.

It is proposed an Open Evening will take place in the Autumn of 2009 to give an update on the project, so please look out for information regarding this on websites and in local facilities.
